Rebecca Ackroyd (b. 1987, Cheltenham, UK; lives and works in Berlin and London) creates work that merges abstract and surreal elements through intricate installations, sculptures, and large-scale paintings. Using materials such as synthetic resin, wood and plaster she combines dreamlike imagery—turbines, eyes, and abstracted casts of her body—with evocative objects like wigs, sunglasses, and cages. Rooted in psychoanalytic theory, her practice explores fundamental themes of time, femininity, and fertility, offering a profound reflection on human experience.

In Period Drama, edited by Nick Koenigsknecht and Alexander Wilmschen, Ackroyd explores fragmented realities, the subconscious and the malleability of memory while reflecting on their representation. The book is published on the occasion of Ackroyd’s most recent exhibitions Mirror Stage at La Biennale di Venezia 2024 and Period Drama at Kestner Gesellschaft, Hanover.
